Sesto San Giovanni: What to Do and How to Get Around

Getting into central Milan

The easiest way is the metro: from the M1 "Sesto Rondò" stop you reach central Milan and the Duomo in about 20 minutes, with no traffic or parking worries. The Duomo is about 10 km away. The same red M1 line also links directly to Rho Fiera, very handy for the trade fairs.

Alternatively, from the Sesto San Giovanni FS station regional trains run to Milan and towards Lecco and the lake, useful for day trips out of town.

Day trips nearby: Monza, Como and Bergamo

Monza is just 8 km away (about 15 minutes by car): don't miss the Villa Reale with its gardens and the vast Monza Park, which also houses the historic Autodromo. It's a perfect family day out, between green spaces and walks.

If you love the lakes, Como is reachable by train for a day along the waterfront, the cathedral and the historic villas. Bergamo, with its splendid walled Città Alta, is another easy destination for a day trip.

The M1 metro is the backbone of travel into Milan, while the Sesto San Giovanni FS station serves regional trains. By car, Sesto is well connected to the main ring roads and motorways towards Monza, the lakes and the rest of Lombardy: the apartment's free parking is a rare convenience in the area.

Sesto San Giovanni has authentic neighbourhood life: pizzerias, trattorias, cafés and gelaterias at fairer prices than central Milan. For groceries you'll find supermarkets and shops a short distance away, handy if you cook in the apartment thanks to the equipped kitchen.

Sesto also keeps traces of its industrial past, now regenerated into public and cultural spaces: a lively, evolving area, convenient as a base for exploring Milan and Lombardy.
